Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., C.S.C.S
has Bachelor and Master degrees in Physical Education from
Pennsylvania
State University and a Ph.D. in Physical Education from Ohio State
University. He is also has been certified as a Personal
Trainer by the American
Council on Exercise and as a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist
by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. |
Wayne
Westcott, Ph.D., C.S.C.S., is the Fitness Research Director at the
South Shore YMCA in Quincy, Massachusetts. His extensive educational
background includes Bachelor and Master degrees in Physical Education
from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Physical Education
from Ohio State University. He is also has been certified as a Personal
Trainer by the American Council on Exercise and as a Certified Strength
Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning
Association.
His vast
experience in the Fitness Industry includes work as a Physical
Education Instructor and Assistant Track Coach at Pennsylvania State
University and Eastern Connecticut State University. He was also a
Physical Education Professor and Undergraduate Co-Director at Florida
State University. He then served as Fitness Director at Old Colony YMCA
in Brochton, Massachusetts, prior to his current position as the South
Shore YMCA Fitness Research Director. Further, he is a strength
training consultant for the United States Navy, the American Council on
Exercise, and the American Academy of Health and Fitness. He is editorial advisor for many
publications, including Prevention, Shape and Fitness Management. He is
author of 22 fitness books including Building Strength and Stamina, Strength Training Past 50, Strength Training for Seniors, Complete Conditioning for Golf, Strength and Power for Young Athletes, and his newest release, Get Stronger, Feel Younger. He presents
strength training seminars for the fitness/conditioning instructors for
all of the military services, the Federal Law Enforcement Training
Center and at all of the national level fitness conventions.
He was
recently honored with the Healthy American Fitness Leader Award from
the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the
Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor’s Committee on
Physical Fitness and Sports, the Presidential Award from the National
School Fitness Foundation and the Alumni Recognition Award from
Pennsylvania State University.
He and his
wife, Claudia, live in Quincy, Massachusetts. There he enjoys
personal interests that include gardening, animals (a dog and two
horses) and outdoor activities (biking, hiking and running).

Shigehiko Nagoya, B.S., C.P.T.,
has extensive experience in the Fitness
Industry that includes over 20 years of Fitness Management, training
Trainers and personal training. He has a Bachelor of Science in
Kinesiology from the University of California. Also, he is a National
Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer. |
Shigehiko
Nagoya, B.S., C.P.T. began his fitness career as a
Kinesiologist in Los Angles and two years later moved to Japan. There
he excelled as a Head Instructor. Additionally, he was chosen to be the
Director of Research and Development for the Tokyo Athletic Equipment
Company followed by duties as the Director of the Medical Division for
Sporting Society No.1 Athletic Club of Tokyo. After 13 years in Japan,
he returned to the United States and worked for 24 Hour Fitness as a
Fitness Supervisor, Fitness Manager, Fitness Education Facilitator,
assistant General Manager and District Fitness Manager. As the District
Manager, he oversaw the hiring, educating, training and business
development of the training department for 14 clubs. He now works for
Equinox Fitness, San Mateo as the Fitness Manager in charge of
educating and training of personal trainers.
He is a
National Lecturer for the National Council of Strength and Fitness,
lecturing on Anatomy, Physiology Biomechanics, Exercise Program Design,
and Basic and Performance Nutrition. Also of note, while in Japan, he
was a visiting lecturer at the Tokyo College of Education, teaching
exercise program design to graduate students.
He is married
with two children and lives about 30 miles south of San Francisco.
Outside of work, he enjoys home improvement and gardening.

Jerry Napp, MA, Exercise Specialist, has
an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama’s
School of
Education and Public Health with a concentration in Exercise
Physiology. His Master of Arts degree is from the University of
Wisconsin’s School of Education with a concentration in
Physiology of
Exercise and Cardiac Rehabilitation. He also completed a
certification in Gerontology/Preventative Medicine from the University
of Wisconsin. |
Jerry Napp,
MA, Exercise Specialist, has extensive education and a broad range of
experiences in Fitness and Aging. He has an undergraduate degree from
the University of Alabama’s School of Education and Public
Health with a concentration in Exercise Physiology. His Master of Arts
degree is from the University of Wisconsin’s School of
Education with a concentration in Physiology of Exercise and Cardiac
Rehabilitation. He also completed a certification in
Gerontology/Preventative Medicine from the University of Wisconsin.
Other past certifications include the American College of Sports
Medicine’s Health Fitness Instructor, Preventative and
Rehabilitative Specialist, and Health/Fitness Director. Presently, he
is an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer
Early in his
Fitness career, he was an Exercise Specialist in cardiac rehabilitation
at the Madison (Wisconsin) General Hospital. He next was the Director
of Fitness and Health Promotion for the Downtown YMCA in Birmingham,
Alabama. In 1990, he transitioned to the equipment supply side of the
industry. With Stairmaster Sports/Medicine he was an Account
Representative in the Southeast Region, leading the way in new product
sales. He then became the Florida Territory Manager responsible for
sales, marketing and customer education and was Salesman of the Year
1999. In 2002 he was hired by Nautilus, managed the territory and
dealer network for Northern Florida, then assumed responsibilities as
the Nautilus Key Account Manager – Medical and Senior Living,
responsible for developing the dealer network, promoting products and
managing key accounts. Currently, as of 2006, he left Nautilus and is
the National Account manager for the American Council on Exercise.
His other
interests include personal training, coaching and health/fitness
programs consulting. He is triathlon coach certified by the USA
Triathlon organization and by the Road Runners’ Club as a
marathon coach. He has participated in over 50 major endurance events,
including five Boston Marathons, plus the Chicago and London Marathons.
He, his wife
Pamela and two children live in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Robert Simons, PhD, MS, CHES
has a diverse educational background that includes a Ph.D. from the
University of Kansas in Health and Fitness with a Gerontology
Certificate and concentration of exercise and the aging process. |
Robert Simons,
Ph.D., C.H.E.S., served 22 years in the military as an Army officer
before transitioning to the Fitness Industry. His educational
background includes an undergraduate degree from the United States
Military Academy, a Masters in Exercise Physiology and a Ph.D. in
Health and Fitness with a Gerontology Certificate and a concentration
in exercise and the aging process, both, from the University of Kansas.
He is also a National Council for Health Education Credentialing
Certified Health Specialist and an American Council on Exercise and
IFPA Certified Master Personal Trainer Instructor.
As a military
officer, he served as an Airborne Ranger and is a veteran of Just Cause
(Panama invasion), the Persian Gulf (Iraq) and Bosnia. He was a U.S.
Army Master Fitness Trainer and authored the U.S. Army Ranger Physical
Training Program. He also has 11 years of teaching experience at the
college level; physical and health education at the United States
Military Academy; health and fitness at the University of Kansas; and
human aging at the University of South Florida.
He is
currently President of Simons Fitness Enterprises, Inc. located in
Seminole, Florida. He consults senior living communities nationally and
frequently publishes and lectures in the health and fitness industry.

Peggie Williamson, MS, CHESis
a professor in the Science Department at Central Texas College in
Killeen, Texas. She currently teaches Nutrition and Diet Therapy and
Anatomy and Physiology primarily for nursing and pre-med students. Her
educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in
Marketing and Management from the University of Virginia and a Master
of Science degree in Health Promotion and Health Education with an
emphasis in exercise and nutrition from Old Dominion University. |
She has also been certified as a Group Fitness Instructor by the Aerobic and Fitness Association
of America; as a Certified Personal Trainer by the American College of
Sports Medicine and the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America; as
a Certified Health Education Specialist by the National Commission for
Health Education Credentialing; and as a CPR and First Aid Instructor
for the American Red Cross.
She gained a broad range of
experience in the health and fitness industry while developing and
implementing corporate wellness programs and preventive health
activities as an assistant to the Wellness Directors at both the
Children’s Hospital for the Kings Daughters and Sentara Health
Systems in Norfolk, Virginia. After these experiences, she began
working for the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. As
the director of NASA’s fitness center, she offered nutrition
counseling, created mini-seminars on general health and exercise, and
established group fitness and personal training programs for members.
In addition, she has extensive experience teaching group fitness
classes that she has conducted for the U.S. Military and several
fitness centers in Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, and
Kansas. She continues to offer personal training and nutritional
counseling in conjunction with her current occupation as a professor.
In addition, she has coauthored several manuals including Central Texas
College’s Anatomy & Physiology I Lab Manual and The Book on Group Fitness.
Currently, she is writing an exercise and nutrition guide for special
populations as she continues to work as a reviewer for several
publishing companies including McGraw Hill Publishing and Lippincott,
Williams, and Wilkins.
She has been invited to
speak at numerous conferences including the Oxford Round Table on
Health and Nutrition at the University of Oxford in England, and she
was most recently honored to be nominated by her students for
‘Who’s Who Among American Teachers.’
She and her husband Steve
live in Harker Heights, Texas. There she enjoys exercise, photography,
cooking, traveling, reading, hiking, and spending time with her dog
Sierra.
