THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF HEALTH AND FITNESS PREPARES PERSONAL TRAINERS
FOR THE BABY BOOMER MARKET
The American Academy of Health and Fitness (AAHF), the leader in education and training for successful aging, presents a new program for certified personal trainers titled SrFit™. This is the second program created by Tammy Petersen, Founder and Managing Partner of AAHF, that specifically targets older adults. This advanced training certification renewal includes a 300-page manual with 60-page study guide, along with a DVD set featuring Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., CSCS, and Fitness Research Director at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, MA. There is also an audio CD that features Tammy and her husband Mark, a physician specializing in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
January 1, 2006 the first Baby Boomers turned 60 and one will continue to do so every 8 seconds for the following 18 years. “AAHF sees the need for the fitness industry to keep current with this segment of the population, as they demand services and products that will allow them to maintain peak health and keep up an active lifestyle,” said Petersen. “With SrFit™ AAHF has created an comprehensive continuing education course that will give the personal trainer the knowledge needed to cater to this ever-growing population.”
This program is approved for 19 contact hours of CEU credit by ACE; 20 hours of credit by Cooper Institute, ISSA, NASM, NESTA, NSCA, and WITS; and 24 hours of credit by BOC (NATA).The SrFit manual is also the textbook for senior programs offered by WITS in a college setting and the American Council on Education has approved this curriculum for 2 hours of college credit.
Advanced training through SrFit™ will ensure that personal trainers provide the highest caliber of service to their senior clientele, delivering the best results safely and effectively. “Applying these materials to senior programs should make a remarkable improvement in the training outcomes,” said Wayne Westcott. AAHF is setting the standard for senior education and training distinction in the fitness industry. A club can decide to partner with AAHF or personal trainers can individually secure their continuing education with the SrFit™ program.
Headquartered in Tonganoxie, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, the American Academy of Health and Fitness is a professional association committed to providing advanced training and continuing education for fitness professionals who are serious about ensuring safe and effective programs for the older adult.
