SrFit™, JrFit and JrFit/SrFit Workshops

The American Academy of Health and Fitness offers an eight-hour SrFit™ Workshop featuring strength-training expert Wayne Westcott and the author of SrFit and JrFit, Tammy Petersen. The SrFit™ Workshop presents recent research and practical recommendations for safely and productively replacing muscle, recharging metabolism and reducing fat for enhanced health and fitness as well as lowered risk of heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, osteoporosis, back pain, arthritis and depression. The focus is sensible strength training for Baby Boomers and Beyond (ages 45-63+), progressing from foundational to fundamental to functional exercises, all performed in accordance with well-researched training protocols consistent with ACSM guidelines. In addition, time will be reserved for questions. The Senior Fitness Test (Rikkli and Jones, Human Kinetics) will be reviewed over a working lunch. Attendees will take home the SrFit™ program package to study at their own pace and earn 19-24 hours of CEU credit from their certification organizations after completion of an online test at a future date of their choice.

Avery Faigenbaum and Wayne Westcott.  Emphasis is placed on specific training factors (exercises, resistance, repetitions, sets, frequency, etc.) and proven training protocols. Attendees will take home the JrFit™ program package to study at their own pace and earn 19-24 hours of CEU credit from their certification organizations after completion of an online test at a future date of their choice.

Wayne L. Westcott, Ph.D., is Fitness Research Director at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, MA. He is a strength-training consultant for the United States Navy, the American Council on Exercise, and the American Academy of Health and Fitness and is editorial advisor for many publications, including Prevention, Shape, and Fitness Management magazines. He is also author of 22 fitness books including Building Strength and Stamina, Strength Training Past 50, Strength Training for Seniors, Complete Conditioning for Golf, Strength and Power for Young Athletes, and his newest release, Get Stronger, Feel Younger. His responsibilities include strength-training seminars for the fitness/conditioning instructors at the United States Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, as well as all of the major conferences for fitness professionals. 

Tammy J. Petersen, B.S., M.S.E., is the Founder and Managing Partner for the American Academy of Health and Fitness. She has written two books on older adult fitness and designed corresponding training programs. Her manual, SrFit, is used nationwide as the textbook for a college based course for personal trainers who wish to work with older adults. SrFit is also the basis for an advanced training home study course that qualifies for up to 24 contact hours of CEU credit with the major personal training certification organizations and also the athletic training Board of Certification. Tammy’s educational background includes Bachelor of Science degrees in both marketing and economics from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. She holds a Master of Science in Education in the area of health and fitness, with an emphasis in geriatrics, from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas.
